A competition to find the best festive lights displayed by a business or local resident in Swanage has yet again proved to be a tricky task with plenty of excellent entries to choose from.
Organised annually by the Swanage Chamber of Trade the judges have been out wandering the streets tracking down the most dazzling displays.
Estate agents Miles and Son take the top spot
And the business winners are…
In the Swanage business or shop category the winners are:
- First prize: Estate agents Miles and Son in Station Road
- Second prize: Candleworld shop in lower High Street
- Third prize: Curiosity shop in the High Street
Candleworld comes a close second
“All the effort is very much appreciated!”
Sylvia Libicka from Swanage Chamber of Trade said:
“We as Swanage Chamber would like to thank all the businesses for decorating the windows and making Swanage look very festive this Christmas.
“It makes such a positive difference to the town and all the effort is very much appreciated!”
Curiosity with amazing window displays all year round wins third prize
The best dressed homes
The task of choosing the best decorated home from all the entries is geographically much harder with so much more ground for the judges to cover from the west to the south, to the north of Swanage.
In the Swanage residential address category, the winners are:
- Overall winners: Four houses in Brickyard Close, Compass Point
- Second prize: The flat, Mariners Court, Mariners Drive
- Third prize: The Vicarage in Ulwell Road
- Highly commended: 8 Burleigh Court for home-made decorations in the windows
Lots of the new homes on Compass Point made a very good effort but in the end Brickyard Close impressed the judges the most
“It was really hard to choose between them”
From Swanage Chamber of Trade Anne Rothery said :
“We decided that the four houses with festive displays in Brickyard Close should be joint winners because they have made such a fantastic effort to light up the whole street, so we are awarding a communal first place this year.
“It was almost impossible to judge this year as all the houses we visited were of such a high standard and it was really hard to choose between them.
“We want to thank everyone for helping to make the town look so beautiful this Christmas – we probably needed cheering up more than ever this year and local residents have certainly not disappointed us!
“We were also delighted to see such a wonderful tree at the Purbeck View School – you can see its lights right across town!
“People have made such an effort to bring some festive cheer to Swanage, especially when money is tight for so many.”
Winners can pick up their prizes from Amber Bay shop in Institute Road in Swanage from Thursday 29th December 2022.
