Beware of icy roads as wintery weather set to hit Purbeck

Swanage and Purbeck residents should take extra care on the roads as frosty conditions are forecast for the south west of England.

The Met Office has placed large swathes of England under a Yellow Warning for snow and ice between 4 pm on Friday 22nd January 2021 and 10.30 am on Saturday 23rd January 2021.

A second Yellow Warning – also for snow and ice – will be in effect for much of Purbeck on Sunday 24th January between 3 am and 6 pm.

While everyone should be staying at home unless necessary under the Covid lockdown, if anyone needs to go out for a legitimate reason then they should be aware of the potential hazards this weather may bring.

Be careful

While the weather warning is in effect, the Met Office says to expect some disruption to travel due to the snow and ice.

There is a chance that patches of roads, pavements and cycle paths may be icy – leading to a higher risk of accidents.

If snowfall strikes, it may also cause disruption to roads and railway lines.
