Discover the wilder side of Wareham at Nature and Wildlife Fair

The environment group Sustainable Wareham is bringing its Nature and Wildlife Fair back to Wareham Town Hall in Dorset for a fourth year, showcasing Purbeck’s natural environment – one of the richest and most diverse landscapes in the UK.

This friendly, family focused event from 10 am to 12 noon on Saturday 25th April 2026 brings together local organisations, experts and enthusiasts who are dedicated to protecting, celebrating and restoring the extraordinary wildlife in the area.

Chat with experts

The organisers say that one of the highlights of the free event is the chance to meet the individuals and organisations working hard to care for Purbeck’s landscapes and species.

Visitors will be able to chat with experts about the challenges facing local wildlife, and ask questions about the projects helping it to thrive, as well as finding out more about species like bats, reptiles, beavers, and seals.

A particularly special attraction for 2026 is the chance to see live footage from the Birds of Poole Harbour osprey nest, while being able to ask one of the conservation group’s team questions abour the birds.

These rare breeding pair of birds have now returned to the area for their fifth consecutive year—a remarkable conservation success story.

Thanks to a live webcam feed, visitors will be able to watch the nest in real time and check out how many eggs have been laid this year so far.

“Feel part of a community that values the natural world”

Chair of Sustainable Wareham Vicky Charles said:

“This is a chance to connect with nature, and each other. Events like the Nature and Wildlife Fair are about more than just information – they’re about bringing a community together.

“In a time when environmental challenges can feel overwhelming, this event offers something positive and hopeful – a chance to see what’s already being done, to get involved, and to feel part of a community that values the natural world.

“And of course, no community event would be complete without refreshments. There will be home-made cakes and drinks available, offering the perfect excuse to pause, chat and soak up the atmosphere!”

Beavers have already been released at Studland and look set to be released soon into the River Frome near Dorchester but likely to end up further downstream near Wareham

Families welcome

Carey’s Secret Garden will be offering a variety of plants for sale and there will be a raffle with prizes donated by the organisations taking part.

The organisers say that families are especially welcome, with children’s activities designed to spark curiosity and creativity.

A craft table will be set up at the fair to keep younger visitors entertained while adults explore the displays, with the aim of making it an easy and enjoyable outing for all ages.
