Promising togas, ridiculous puns and possibly an overworked Trojan Horse, the theatre company Living Spit is to perform its new show in Swanage in Dorset, supported by local arts charity Artsreach.
A favourite with audiences across Dorset following sell-out tours with shows including Typhoid Mary, and One Man and His Cow, Somerset-based Living Spit is bringing the comedy, Too Many Greek Myths to The Mowlem on Monday 13th October 2025 at 6 pm.

Accessible ticket prices
Artsreach is Dorset’s touring arts organisation, giving rural communities all over the county the opportunity to see and participate in high quality arts events in their own towns and villages.
As a charitable organisation, it aims to make ticket prices accessible to everyone and to enable this to happen, it receives regular funding from Arts Council England and Dorset Council.
The first Artsreach programme was launched in March 1990 and featured just nine venues. In 2025 it is celebrating its 35th anniversary and presents a programme of around 130 events a year in partnership with over forty rural communities, including Swanage, Corfe Castle, Langton Matravers and Studland.

Living Spit’s last performance for Artsreach was There’s Something About Typhoid Mary
Hare-brained humour and questionable wigs
The show Too Many Greek Myths starts with two members of Living Spit, who are overheard bragging about how good they are, so Zeus, enraged by their hubris, decides to teach them a lesson. His punishment? A Herculean challenge – to squeeze 20 of the greatest Ancient Greek myths into one performance!
While the evening tackles everything from Hades to Heracles, Midas to Medusa, with what the theatre company likes to call its ‘trademark blend of hare-brained humour, questionable wigs and a total disregard for historical accuracy’, there’s no need to be a Greek scholar to enjoy the performance.

“Laughing so much it hurts”
Kerry Bartlett from Artsreach said:
“Even if you don’t know any Greek myths, it doesn’t matter as the whole aim of Living Spit is to make these historical stories fun and accessible to everyone. In fact, this is the first show where they have deliberately made it suitable for families with a loose recommendation of 8 years and over.
“We may even find the children will be a bit more clued up about the subject matter having learnt about the Greeks in school and be able to teach the adults something!
“If you haven’t seen Living Spit before, I have to say that it is a performance like no other. There’s musical talent, energy and passion, and it’s highly likely you will leave The Mowlem laughing so much it hurts – well that’s my experience!”
Following the Artsreach performance at The Mowlem in Swanage, Living Spit will also perform Too Many Greek Myths at Halstock village hall in North Dorset at 7.30pm on Wednesday 15th October 2025.

In March 2025, Artsreach brought the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra to The Mowlem in Swanage
