Boris Johnson enjoys Studland break with his new baby

Former Prime Minister Boris Johnson has taken an autumn break in Purbeck with his wife and new baby daughter – and even braved a dip in the sea at Lulworth Cove.

Wife Carrie and baby Poppy stayed with Boris at The Pig on the Beach hotel in Studland for three days, visiting Swanage, Kimmeridge, Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door, and enjoying some late autumn sunshine.

Walking the Jurassic Coast

The family arrived at The Lookout, a converted dovecote in the grounds of The Pig hotel in Studland with views over the walled kitchen garden, on Wednesday 12th November 2025.

They spent their time in Dorset walking sections of the Jurassic Coast from Old Harry in Studland to Dancing Ledge, Chapman’s Pool and on to Lulworth and Durdle Door.

It was their first holiday with their new daughter, who was born in May 2025, while their three other children – Wilfred, Romy and Frank – stayed at home in Brightwell Manor, Oxfordshire, being looked after by family.

But it was not the first time the Johnsons have holidayed in Purbeck, taking a break in Kimmeridge in July 2023, ten months after Boris Johnson resigned as Prime Minister.

“One of my favourite places”

Carrie Johnson told her 100,000 followers on Instagram:

“We had such a lovely time walking in one of my favourite places, along the Jurassic Coast in Dorset. I spent a lot of my childhood in Kimmeridge so it was so nice to be back.

“We stayed at The Pig on the Beach. I’ve stayed at quite a few of The Pig Hotels now and they are all incredible. Not just the comfiest beds and the best food, but the nicest team of people too.

“Poppy is going through a stage where she gets separation anxiety if she can’t see me for even a second which can sometimes make getting anything done very tricky, so it felt really amazing to be able to do so much with her in tow.”

The weather was so nice that Boris Johnson even braved a dip in Lulworth Cove

“Poppy loved all the fresh air”

Carrie added:

“Poppy loved all the fresh air and was cosy sleeping in her carrier rucksack while we hiked up hill. We were so lucky with the weather. The last day even felt warm enough for a dip in the sea.

“We would have felt sad to come home but had my three older kids sitting on the foot of the stairs in their PJs waiting for us to come through the front door!”

Poppy Eliza Josephine Johnson was born on Wednesday 21st May, 2025, the fourth child of Boris and Carrie Johnson, although Boris has another five children by previous partners.

The Johnsons’ first two children, Wilfred and Romy, were born while the couple were in Downing Street during the Covid pandemic. Frank was born in July 2023, their first after Boris Johnson left office in the wake of the Partygate scandal in September 2022.

Carrie Johnson, a former communications director for the Conservative Party, hinted that their fourth child would be their last, describing Poppy as a ‘final gang member’ and saying that her other children were ‘utterly delighted’ with the addition to the family.

Star struck at The Pig hotel

Studland residents, and visitors to The Pig on the Beach, have been getting used to seeing famous visitors this year.

Dozens of Hollywood A-list film stars arrived in the village to celebrate the 60th birthday of Oscar winning director and local resident Sir Sam Mendes in August 2025.

The guest list included Nicole Kidman, Andy Serkis, Jeremy Irons, Mark Strong, and three of the stars of Sir Sam’s latest project, four biopics of the 60s band The Beatles.

Several top stars who attended the party stayed at The Pig hotel, which was closed to the public – although the restaurant remained open and some diners took to social media to announce who they had seen in the gardens.

In the previous 12 months, the hotel had also been visited by Holby City actor Jules Knight, Strictly Come Dancing star Joe McFadden, Gogglebox star Honey Kinney, the daughter of Jonathan Ross, and several Premier League footballers from AFC Bournemouth.
