A pretty punchy film setting out the risks facing the UK due to a growing climate and nature emergency is to be shown in Swanage, Wareham, Worth Matravers and at Careys Secret Garden near Wareham in Dorset.
MP for South Dorset Lloyd Hatton and the leader of Dorset Council Nick Ireland will be coming along to the film screening in Swanage on Friday 5th June 2026, while MP for Mid Dorset and North Poole Vikki Slade will be attending the Wareham screening on Thursday 21st May 2026.

The event which the film is based around, was hosted by environmentalist Chris Packham
Climate and nature breakdown
The 50 minute People’s Emergency Briefing film includes footage of an event which took place in Westminster, London in November 2025.
At the event, 10 leading experts briefed more than 1,200 politicians and leaders from business, culture, faith, sport and the media, on the implications of climate and nature breakdown for health, food systems, national security and the economy.
The event was hosted by environmentalist Chris Packham, and in the film, he talks to actor Jennifer Saunders and business entrepreneur Deborah Meaden, along with others.
While some of the facts are alarming – the film is recommended for those over 16 years – it also aims to show the enormous benefits to communities, if genuine emergency action was to be taken now.

A screening organised by Sustainable Swanage, will take place at 7.30 pm on Friday 5th June 2026 at The Swanage School

Happening across the UK
Screenings of the film, which are free to attend, are also taking place in village halls across the UK, not just in Purbeck, to spread the information and spark a debate.
Those who made the film would also like it to be shown on a main broadcast channel like the BBC, in the same way national emergencies like the Covid pandemic have been given high profile coverage.

“It made me think twice”
Jonathan Griffin from Sustainable Swanage said:
“The film is science based – it’s not political and about policy – but looks at what the science tells us so we can decide how to respond.
“One thing about the briefing that I found extraordinary was one of the speakers – a retired British Army officer Richard Nugee – who you might think would have fairly conservative views about climate change – but he addressed the issue from the point of view of political instability and how disruption to supply chains and water scarcity could lead to conflict.
“It made me think twice, and that’s the point. After the film, we will have time to discuss the actions we think we should be taking in Swanage.”

“Understand the scale of the challenge”
At the Swanage screening there will be a chance to listen to the thoughts of MP for South Dorset Lloyd Hatton and the leader of Dorset Council Nick Ireland, and to ask questions.
It will also be an opportunity to find out about events that Sustainable Swanage will be holding over the summer, themed around the marine environment, active transport, and recycling.
In Worth Matravers, the discussion following the film will be led by former local vicar James Mercer, while in Wareham, MP for Mid Dorset and North Poole Vikki Slade will be taking an active role in the debate afterwards.
Vicky Charles from Sustainable Wareham said:
“We want people to come away informed, but also feeling empowered.
“This is about helping communities understand the scale of the challenge, while also recognising that local action and community involvement really matter.”
