A lucky Swanage audience will be the first in the UK to enjoy a new show by leading comedian Jack Dee as he visits The Mowlem to try out material ahead of a year-long tour.
Tickets for Jack Dee, the latest and biggest name to date in Swanage’s stand-up comedy collaboration with Off The Kerb productions, go on sale from 11 am on Wednesday 17th July 2024 at The Mowlem box office and via the website.

The Mowlem will be the first location in Britain to be treated to material from Jack Dee’s new stand-up comedy show
Tickets expected to sell out quickly
The show, set for Tuesday 8th October 2024, is a warm-up for Jack Dee’s 12-month Small World tour of almost 100 dates which begins in November 2024, and Swanage tickets are expected to sell out quickly.
Jack, who is billed as ‘turning grumpiness into an art form’ has become firmly established as one of Britain’s biggest and best-loved comedy stars since starting a TV career in 1991. He now regularly appears on top panel shows including Have I Got News For You and QI.
He has co-written and starred in two of his own sitcoms – Lead Balloon for BBC Two, and Bad Move for ITV, as well as appearing in a host of popular television series including Jonathan Creek, Silent Witness, Dalziel and Pascoe and Meet The Richardsons.
The booking follows recent sell-out comedy nights at The Mowlem featuring Seann Welsh, Andy Parsons, Rich Hall and Simon Evans, with Maisie Adam booked to appear on Wednesday 6th November 2024.

“An icon of British comedy”
The Mowlem’s marketing officer Hannah Fleming-Hill said:
“Jack Dee is an icon of British comedy and it is really exciting for The Mowlem to have such a big name appear.
“We were honoured to have Rich Hall at The Mowlem earlier this year, who had been on Mock The Week and QI a lot, but I think a UK audience will be more familiar with Jack Dee as he has been on TV and radio so much over the past 30 years.
“This is a warm-up show in preparation for his new tour which we were able to secure at late notice, which is quite a coup for Swanage being able to hear his material first.
“I was especially excited as Jack Dee used to stay at the Knoll House Hotel in Studland quite frequently and there are a lot of local people who would have met him during those years.”

Well known gift for talking rubbish
Hannah added:
“He has a very dry British sense of humour and a deadpan face, which I think is why he is so beloved by UK audiences.
“We have been quite selective with our comedy dates to make sure that we get big names and they have all sold out to date and have been very well received, which is great for a small town – we would otherwise have to go to Bournemouth to see stars of this calibre
“There is likely to be swearing and adult content from Jack Dee, so there will be a strict age limit of 14 years on the ticket sales, but it is a top comedy show and we are really looking forward to welcoming him.
“His managers say that Jack will guide us through his varied life and career with his customary charm and well known gift for talking absolute rubbish on any given subject, so it should be a wonderful evening!”

Grouchy on-stage demeanour
The Mowlem has been collaborating with Off the Kerb Productions, a leading UK comedy agency that manages some of the biggest names in comedy including Harry Hill, Jo Brand, Jonathan Ross, Rob Beckett, Romesh Ranganathan and Michael McIntyre.
Specialising in deadpan observational routines and memorable one-liners, Jack Dee’s compelling stage presence is defined by his grouchy on-stage demeanour and his exasperation with the idiocies of the modern world.

Meaningless small things of life
A spokesperson for Off The Kerb said:
“Firmly established as one of Britain’s biggest and best-loved comedy stars, Jack Dee has captured the imagination of audiences and critics alike with his dry humour and deadpan delivery over the last four decades.
“Culture wars, the environment, British foreign policy and social justice are just a few of the topics that Jack spectacularly fails to address, or even mention for that matter, in his brand new show.
“Instead, for reasons known only to him, he doubles down on his fascination with the meaningless small things of life like Zoom protocol, what’s new in the world of radiators and the worst careers advice office in the world.”
Jack Dee has won three British Comedy Awards and was nominated for Best Entertainment Performer at the BAFTAS.
His national tour of Small World sees a return to stand-up comedy after his 2021 Off The Telly tour was disrupted by Covid and lockdown.

Jack Dee, probably the most famous person excluding Princess Anne to officially visit Swanage in the last five years, also chairs BBC Radio 4’s long-running comedy quiz I’m Sorry I Haven’t A Clue
“It was a lovely feeling to be back”
At the time, Jack Dee said:
“It was such a surreal journey. I had just got the tour started, having spent the past six months travelling around Britain doing church halls and arts centres getting it right. Then the curtain fell on the tour because of lockdown.
“That was annoying. People just don’t think about people like me in the pandemic, do they? It’s all about the doctors and nurses!
“After lockdown, I got really excited, but I was also daunted and mildly intimidated. I thought, ‘what am I going back to? Are we all going to be so beaten up by the whole experience of the pandemic that it will be hard to enjoy life again?’
“But people realised very quickly that this is what we need and this is what makes life worth finding vaccines for. Otherwise, if life is going to be rubbish anyway, why bother with a vaccine? As soon as I got back on stage, I was immediately re-energised. It was a lovely feeling to be back.”
