Coats for kids – help keep Swanage’s children warm over winter

Swanage residents are being asked to go through their cupboards and donate children’s winter coats and warm pyjamas to help families who are struggling at the end of a tough year.

As an act of festive charity, Dorset Council is calling on everyone to help make winter easier by donating items to help keep children warm, suitable for ages 3 to 12.

Swanage Children’s Centre will host a drop off point for residents to offer new or nearly new coats and pyjamas as part of the appeal on Tuesday 8th and Wednesday 9th December 2020.

Swanage residents can drop off children’s winter coats and warm pyjamas at the Children’s Centre in Chapel Lane just off the High Street

Heavy duty and weather resistant coats

Dorset Council is welcoming all sorts of children’s coats, but is looking for heavy duty, weather resistant ones in particular. It is requesting good quality items that people would want to receive themselves.

Swanage residents are also being asked to help spread the word across Dorset, as there will be similar collection points in other towns including Wareham, Weymouth and Bridport.

Depending on the centre, donations are being received at various points between Friday 4th December and Thursday 10th December 2020.

After the drop-off, there will be a wait of a few days to minimise COVID-19 infection risks.

Families who need the clothes can then pick them up at different sites between Monday 14th December and Sunday 20th December. The precise dates for Swanage are yet to be confirmed.

“Support Dorset’s children to help them stay warm and dry”

Councillor Andrew Parry, Dorset Council’s Portfolio Holder for Children, Education, Skills and Early Help, said:

“Outdoor play is incredibly beneficial for children, and with winter drawing in we are asking residents to support Dorset’s children to help them stay warm and dry by providing a winter coat and cosy pyjamas.

“These items can be a significant cost for many families and we are calling on the generosity of Dorset’s residents to help keep children cosy this Christmas.”
