“It’s got to be the roulade for me” – David Furmage, customer at Java Independent Coffee House

Many thanks to all the staff at Java Independent Coffee House and regular customer, David Furmage.

A boutique coffee shop, tucked away behind Institute Road and Station Road in Tilly Mead – a plant-filled courtyard with outdoor seating. Look for an alleyway off any of the main roads and it will lead to this hidden cafe. Alternatively, ask a local for directions, as we all know Java.

The cafe is open for breakfast and lunch and closes at 3.30pm, so be sure to visit earlier in the day. It serves imaginative vegetarian and vegan food, including soups, pasties, toasties and cakes, alongside gluten-free options. However, it’s really famous for its quality coffee.

“It’s in the centre of town but it feels like it’s away from the town, so you haven’t got the hustle and bustle of all the cars. You can actually switch off, you can be here for hours… it’s lovely.”

Local customer, David Furmage

David’s favourite pub: Square and Compass

“Take a walk along the coastline and visit the best pub…it’s in Worth Matravers called the Square and Compass Pub and that is a definite (place to) visit.”
