It’s lit as Swanage sparkles at Christmas!

New festive lights in the centre of Swanage brought extra colour to the town for Christmas 2024 and lots of residents joined in by putting on impressive light shows in their own front gardens.

With a new three year agreement in place to provide Christmas lighting in the shopping area, Swanage Town Council took the opportunity to update the look, choosing to go multi-coloured instead of the ice white of previous years.

Polar purple glow

As The Polar Express steamed into town for a second year, there was also a distinct Polar purple glow to the decorations which were admired by all the people heading towards Swanage station in their pyjamas, ready to board the train to the North Pole.

The Mowlem building in Shore Road, which is equally loved and loathed for its brutalist architecture, was transformed for Christmas for the first time with projected images of a dizzy snowman and a festive greeting.

And no one could fail to spot Swanage Pier projecting out into the bay, lit up with hundreds of lights dedicated to loved ones.

Festive window displays

Shops and businesses showed off their artistic flair with impressive festive window displays from the comical to the truly stunning, while lots of local residents put on their own shows for their street.

From the unmissable Christmas lights as you drive into Swanage, to the neighbours who have all got together to light up their road, as well as the beautiful, warm white lit house on Gilbert Road which gave the Polar Express’s colored trees a run for their money!

Traditionally, Christmas decorations aren’t taken down until Twelfth Night which is on Sunday 5th January 2025, so there’s still time after Christmas to admire them across Swanage.
