A 71 year old man has suffered a serious head injury after falling about 12 metres from the cliff at Peveril Point in Swanage. The Swanage Coastguard team who were called to help, said that the man from New Milton, was visiting the area when he stumbled and fell from the cliff.
A member of the public saw it happen, acted fast by calling the emergency services who responded immediately. The coordinated rescue operation involved the Swanage Coastguard team, the Coastguard Helicopter Rescue 175, the South Western Ambulance service, St Alban’s Head Coastguard, Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance and Dorset Police.

The injured man was treated at the scene by paramedics, the air ambulance doctor and coastguard team members. The Coastguard Helicopter Rescue 175 was on a training flight when the incident happened and was diverted to Swanage to help.
The casualty was then airlifted from the bottom of the cliff, to the top of the Downs. From there, the man was transferred to an ambulance that rushed him to Poole Hospital for treatment.
