Man swimming in Studland Bay dies after getting into difficulty

Swanage Coastguard team were called to reports of two swimmers in trouble at Studland, along with Poole Lifeboat crew.

First to arrive was the coastguard who managed to get one man out of the sea and found that the other man had managed to make it ashore.

Poole Lifeboat was launched at 8.30 am on Friday 6th November 2020 and arrived to find the coastguard was giving urgent medical treatment to the two men on the beach. Two of the lifeboat crew went to assist.

Paramedics took over the critical care of the casualties

Shortly afterwards, the coastguard helicopter 175 from Lee on Solent and the Dorset and Somerset air ambulance, along with an ambulance arrived. At this point, the paramedics took over the critical care of the casualties.

Swanage Coastguard reported:

“Sadly despite the efforts of all those attending, one male sadly passed away. The second male was transferred by ambulance to hospital. Our thoughts are with the family and friends.”
