Moving date for Swanage Post Office announced

Swanage Post Office branch is relocating from Kings Road and views are being sought to help improve access and services when it moves to Institute Road.

The current post office, opposite Swanage Medical Practice, will close on Wednesday 5th October 2022 at 5 pm and reopen at its new premises on Tuesday 11th October 2022 at 9 am.

With the lease on the shop in Kings Road due to expire, Swanage postmaster Liam Searle bought the old Betfred shop in Institute Road in 2021 and has been doing up the premises in preparation for turning it into the new post office branch.

Jason Collins from Post Office Limited said:

“We are moving the Swanage Post Office branch to a new location: 25 Institute Road, Swanage, BH19 1BT, where it will continue to operate as one of our main style branches.

“The new premises will be undergoing refurbishment to incorporate Swanage Post Office and a stationery and gifts store.”

“Help inform our plans”

Jason added:

“Whilst the decision has already been made to move Swanage Post Office, we would still like your views on access and the service offered at the new location. We welcome feedback and comments that can help inform our plans.”

There is a short survey, which residents are being urged to complete.

More important as bank branches close

Swanage has one other post office further out of town at Costcutters on the High Street in Herston, which will continue to offer its service while the town centre branch closes during its relocation.

With the closure of many bank branches including Lloyds in Swanage on Monday 19th September 2022, the post office is becoming increasingly important as a place for people to do their banking.
