Firefighters had an early wake up call to start their weekend when a fire broke out under a Purbeck Breezer bus in Swanage, Dorset.
The incident on the number 40 bus happened around 6.25 am on Saturday 16th November 2024.
The incident happened on the High Street near to the junction with Days Road
The slogan on the bus promises a spectacular ride through the Isle of Purbeck and passengers definitely got more than they bargained for!
Rear brakes on fire
The double decker bus had just begun its early morning route, heading out of town along the High Street.
Later that day, Swanage Fire Station reported:
“Early this morning both pumps were mobilised to a large vehicle fire in town.
“On arrival we found a small fire coming from the rear brakes of a bus and it was extinguished and cooled down using one hose reel jet.
“Luckily the damage to the bus was kept to a minimum and no one was injured.”

Large haystack fire
This incident followed another callout for Swanage Fire Station on the previous day.
At about 4.30 pm on Friday 15th November 2024, Swanage firefighters along with a crew from Westbourne Fire Station, put out a large haystack that had caught alight in a field.
The burning pile of hay, straw and reed was extinguished, using two hose reel jets and by turning over the haystack material.
