Part of the A351 near Corfe Castle was closed following a collision between two vehicles and there were severe delays to traffic between Swanage and Wareham
Emergency services were called to Gallows Hill at Norden just after 3 pm on Thursday 22nd April 2021, where two cars were reported to have crashed.
Fire crews from Swanage attended, as well as police and ambulance crews. The road has been closed while emergency services deal with the incident.

“I believe there was one casualty in each vehicle”
Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue reports that there was a casualty from each of the vehicles, who are in the care of paramedics. A spokesperson said:
“We were called to the A351 at Gallows Hill, Norden at 3.07 pm for a two vehicle road traffic collision. Two crews from Swanage attended to help our colleagues from the ambulance service, with police also on scene.
“I believe there was one casualty in each vehicle; they have both now been released into the care of paramedics, and our stop came at 4.17 pm. We have made the scene safe and are in the process of leaving the scene.”
Swanage Fire Station later added:
“Two casualties, one in each car, were removed using hydraulic cutting equipment. They were then transported to hospital by ambulance crews.
“We wish both people a speedy recovery.”

Purbeck Police said:
“Emergency services are dealing with a two vehicle crash on the A351 near Norden Farm between Norden and the Halfway Inn. Road closures are in place. Please avoid this area.”

Cars stuck in a traffic queue on the Arne Road
Queues of vehicles are stuck along country lanes
Long delays to traffic have been building up and while the police have been diverting vehicles, queues of cars are stuck along country lanes in Arne, Church Knowle and Furzebrook.
One motorist said that they had left Swanage at 3.25 pm and it had taken them an hour and a half to get to Stoborough via Arne.
Purbeck School buses bringing students home to Corfe Castle and Swanage have also been caught in the traffic jam.


“Seek an alternative route where possible”
The Purbeck Breezer number 40 bus route is facing delays. Morebus said:
“Passengers are advised to seek an alternative route where possible, such as Swanage to Bournemouth on Breezer 50. Sorry for any inconvenience caused.”
