Swanage couple launch new skincare range inspired by seaweed

A Purbeck wellness business is launching its first range of seaweed based skincare products after 18 months of development, inspired by the coastline around Studland.

Business owners Jade and Dan Scott of Swanage officially launched the new Sae Seaweed skincare collection on Monday 18th May 2026.

The collection, which includes serums, moisturisers and face creams, has been created using seaweed collected from along the Purbeck coast under a Crown Estate foraging licence.

Dan cuts the seaweed by hand along a 35 mile stretch of coast stretching from Old Harry rocks to Portland Bill before hanging it up in a drying room at Studland.

The seaweed is then used as an active ingredient in a range of new products developed in collaboration with a natural skincare laboratory and cosmetic chemist, made locally in small batches using only natural ingredients.

Jade Scott said the idea for the range grew out of her own health journey and search for skincare suitable for sensitive, allergy-prone skin.

“A lifelong passion for nature”

Jade Scott said:

“In 2010, Dan and I followed our hearts to a little hut on the shores of Middle Beach, Studland. Our wild food adventure company, Fore Adventure, was born from a lifelong passion for nature and a dream to connect other people to it too.

“But the catalyst for Sae Seaweed came later, through my own search for a gentler way to feel well.

“Living with long-term health challenges and severe allergies, I struggled to find skincare that was natural, effective and safe for me to use, so I decided to create my own.

“I discovered seaweed baths, an ancient coastal ritual believed to help soothe muscles, calm inflamed skin and encourage relaxation.

“The science behind it is that when seaweed is warmed, it releases oils rich in magnesium to soothe, iodine to detoxify, and antioxidants your skin absorbs.

“A toxin free product line”

Jade added:

“For me, it brought genuine relief, and what began as something deeply personal became something I wanted to share, especially with others seeking a more nature led way to unwind and restore.

“For the past 18 months I’ve been quietly working with a natural skincare lab and cosmetic chemist to create our first skincare collection.

“I am thrilled about the launch of our new product line after an extensive development process, from selecting the right ingredients to ensuring every production step is sustainable.

“As part of my personal health management, I prioritise natural products due to my sensitivity to artificial ingredients, which can trigger severe anaphylactic reactions.

“This made it essential for me to create a toxin free product line, locally crafted in Dorset, using our own hand harvested seaweed from our shores, and I’m really excited to be able to share it with everyone.”

“Free from parabens and silicones”

Dan Scott said customer feedback from the couple’s seaweed spa experiences helped inspire the move into skincare.

Dan said:

“Jade always had the idea to make a range of beauty products. We started out by making our own for use here, but to get them onto the shelves for general sale you need to follow various industry standard practices, and it takes a while.

“Each product in our range is made using seaweed we hand harvest from the Dorset Coast under our Crown Estate licence, all free from parabens and silicones, and formulated for sensitive, allergy prone skin.

“We have had a lot of requests for the products we use, and most customers want to take a product away with them after their seaweed spa.”

Wider public release later in the year

The first limited production batch will initially be available to waitlist subscribers before a wider public release later in the year.

The launch comes shortly after the couple expanded their seaweed spa business at Middle Beach with the opening of a second spa at their Studland site for the 2026 season, following growing demand from customers.

And Sae Seaweed was also seen by an estimated 1.5 million TV viewers when the spa was featured on a recent episode of the BBC property programme Escape to the Country, screened in April 2026.
