Just as guests were making their way to bed, the fire alarm went off after an industrial tumble dryer caught alight at a 30 room hotel in Swanage, Dorset.
Around 25 firefighters from Swanage, Wareham, Bere Regis and Westbourne were called to the Grand Hotel in Burlington Road, just after 11 pm on Thursday 1st August 2024.
Firefighters were quick to put out the fire in the laundry room of the hotel built in the1890s
Staff member treated for smoke inhalation
A spokesperson for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said:
“On their arrival, crews found a fire in the laundry which was extinguished by firefighters wearing breathing apparatus using hose reels and a main line.
“The hotel was evacuated and one staff member was treated for smoke inhalation by ambulance service colleagues.”
The Grand Hotel is a popular place to stay with 30 ensuite rooms and seaviews

Busy July for Swanage firefighters
During July 2024, Swanage Fire Station was called out 28 times, which included nine fires and eight requests to assist the ambulance service.
