In line with the restrictions imposed by lockdown, there will be a two minute silence across the town at 11 am and a scaled back act of remembrance at Swanage War Memorial.
This year’s Remembrance Day on Wednesday 11th November 2020 marks 102 years since the end of World War One.
Live streamed to allow people to listen to the service at home
The short ceremony at the war memorial, that remembers those killed in the two world wars and the members of the armed forces killed or injured since 1945, will be live streamed to allow people to listen to the service, while staying safe at home.
The service will be conducted by the Reverend John Cooper and attended by President of the Swanage Legion, Steve Churchill, and Swanage Mayor, councillor Mike Bonfield, who will be representing the community. This can only happen if residents respect the request to stay at home.
Laying of poppy wreaths around the stone plinth
Last Sunday, a similar ceremony took place at Swanage War Memorial at 3 pm with members of the armed forces laying the traditional poppy wreaths around the stone plinth.
To keep everyone as safe as possible, people may view the Swanage War Memorial act of remembrance live on the Swanage.News Facebook page and directly on the Swanage.News website by reloading this page at 10.50 am.
The live stream will start at 10.50 am, however in case of any technical difficulties, a recording will also be available to view shortly after the event.
Remembrance Day order of service
Wednesday 11th November 2020 at 10.50 am
Minister: We have come to worship God,
who is good and just and true.
He created and sustains the world;
and loves us, though we have failed him.
We remember all who have given their lives
in the struggle for justice and peace,
all who suffer in war and conflict,
and all who live in terror.
