Back by popular demand, the Mayor’s Charity Ball is being held again and this time it’s to mark the 50th anniversary of the formation of Swanage Town Council.
In 2023, the idea of a municipal charity ball was resurrected to celebrate the Coronation of King Charles III and keen to repeat the success, Swanage Town Mayor Tina Foster is dusting down her finery for another big bash at 7 pm for 7.30 pm on Saturday 22nd February 2025 at Swanage Bay View in Panorama Road.

Raising money for Dementia Friendly Purbeck
Swanage Town Council was formed in 1974, with its first year running through to 1975, having taken over the responsibilities of running many of the town’s services from the Swanage Urban District Council.
Swanage town mayor Tina Foster said:
“As we come to the end of this council’s year in May it was decided to hold a second Mayor’s Charity Ball to celebrate the 50th anniversary and raise money for the charity Dementia Friendly Purbeck.
“The ball to mark the Coronation of King Charles III was a great success, with all dressing in their finery and dancing to the band The Rat Pack.
“This was probably the first Mayor’s Charity Ball held in 40 years and it was requested that this become a regular event. So the golden anniversary of the town council was the perfect opportunity to have another bash!”

The Rat Pack are returning to get everyone up and dancing!

Floral displays are being provided again by the Purbeck Flower Club
“The town’s charity shops have all been warned!”
The local popular swing band The Rat Pack have been booked again and a buffet is being provided by The Purbeck Plaza tapas bar for revellers to enjoy some Spanish treats.
The Purbeck Flower Club will be decorating the function room with beautiful floral displays and there will be a statement golden arch.
Tina Foster, the town’s 21st mayor, added:
“Ball Gowns and tuxedos are being shaken out of wardrobes and possibly new ensembles purchased for the occasion – the town’s charity shops have all been warned to stock up with gowns and dinner suits!
“And maybe revellers would like to wear a touch of gold to tie in with the occasion? The golden arch will be the perfect setting for all your photos in your finery.
“We’re hoping to raise plenty of cash for Dementia Friendly Purbeck through ticket sales and the sale of raffle tickets for prizes generously donated by local businesses. Do come along, everyone is welcome!”
