A multi agency emergency response team had to stretcher a 69 year old woman from a difficult to access part of the Studland shoreline back to Ferry Road after she fell and broke her leg.
The South Western Ambulance Service was first on the scene of the incident, which happened around 4 pm on Sunday 22nd December 2024.

A combined effort of coastguards and firefighters stretchered the woman over Studland’s rough heathland
Stretchered to safety
It’s understood that the woman from Swanage, slipped as she was walking her dog near Jerry’s Point along the Studland shoreline which borders Poole Harbour.
With no easy way to move her from the remote location to an ambulance, the crew asked the Swanage Coastguard for help.
However once the Swanage Coastguard had assessed the situation, further resources were requested due to the difficult to access location. This included St Albans Coastguard, along with fire crews from Swanage, Wareham and Poole.
A spokesperson from Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue said:
“We were called to Ferry Road in Studland at 5.01 pm to assist the ambulance service and coastguard with moving a casualty from the waterline to the road.
“We initially mobilised two crews, from Swanage and Wareham, and the technical rescue team from Poole, but Poole was quickly released from the scene.”

Coastguard volunteers are called out at all times of night and day
“Everyone working together in difficult conditions”
Using the coastguard stretcher, the woman was carried across the sandy heathland to Ferry Road and the waiting ambulance.
Swanage Coastguard reported:
“This was an excellent multi agency incident with everyone working together in difficult conditions to get an injured person to safety.”
