The governing body of The Swanage School has announced that Jenny Maraspin is to become the school’s new headteacher with immediate effect. Ms Maraspin has been acting headteacher at the school since the illness and early retirement of the former headteacher, Tristan Hobson.
Ms Maraspin, who has a master’s degree in mathematics education from Exeter University, was formerly the secondary school’s deputy head and has been on the teaching staff since the school’s early days. The Swanage School was established in 2013, following a government reorganisation of local education provision.

In a statement published on the school’s website, the governing body said:
“We are delighted to make this appointment, that we have such a fantastic Headteacher to take the school forward through its next phase of growth and development and to lead the school through the challenging weeks and months ahead. Our congratulations and thanks go to Ms Maraspin.”
It went onto say:
“Whilst the next weeks and months will clearly be an unsettling time for everyone, the school will continue, under Ms Maraspin’s leadership, to support, educate and care for the children to the very best of its abilities. Staff have been working incredibly hard to prepare for the school having to close to the majority of pupils and in making plans for the coming weeks, and our sincere thanks and appreciation go out to them.”
