Two people run over by own car at Lulworth

Emergency services responded quickly to reports that a car had rolled 30 metres down the cliff near Durdle Door Holiday Park in Lulworth, seriously injuring a man.

The incident happened around 12.15 pm on Wednesday 5th May 2021.

Lulworth, Wyke and Kimmeridge Coastguard teams attended, along with the South Western Ambulance, Devon Air Ambulance, Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue and Dorset Police.

“An injured male was flown to Southampton Hospital”

Lulworth Coastguard reported:

“It transpired that a car had rolled down the hill at the car park, running over the owner and one other. The car had come to a halt some 30 metres from the car park.

“An injured male was flown to Southampton Hospital, a less seriously injured woman was taken by road to Dorset County Hospital.”

“Car handbrake had failed”

Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue attended to recover the car. A spokesperson added:

“A crew from Weymouth was called by the coastguard to Durdle Door Holiday Park at 12.24 pm. A car handbrake had failed, causing the car to roll down a hill before stopping at the cliff edge.”
