Warning of ferry disruption due to Storm Jorge

With Storm Jorge on its way and heavy rain and strong gales forecast for the weekend, there are warnings of disruption to the operation of the Sandbanks Ferry.

In a Facebook post, the company has asked people to check its social media channels before travelling over the weekend for its latest service updates.

Yellow weather warnings have been issued by the Met Office for the south west of England:

  • Yellow warning of heavy rain – Starts 3 am Friday 28th February 2020. Ends 6 am Saturday 29th February 2020.
  • Yellow warning of strong winds – Starts 12 noon Saturday 29th February 2020. Ends 12 noon on Sunday 1st March 2020.

In Swanage, hailstorms are also forecast for Saturday.

The Met Office says:

“Where warnings are in place gusts of 50-60 mph are likely quite widely with 65-70 mph possible in coastal areas.

“With rain falling on already saturated ground, further flooding is possible in places.”

This is the third storm to hit Swanage this month.
