A competition to find the best festive decorations in Swanage has proved a tricky task, as many residents went to astonishing lengths to create dazzling displays to banish the winter gloom.
Organised annually by Swanage Chamber of Trade, the judges were looking for the best Christmas windows and gardens.
After much deliberation it was decided to award the first prize in the residential category to three joint winners.

Anne Rothery from Swanage’s Chamber of Trade said:
“We couldn’t choose between the three main winners in the residential category – they have all gone to great effort to create displays that lighten the hearts of everyone walking past.”
A carefully curated and attention grabbing display at 5 Battlemead was a winner

Winner best flat or place without a front garden
First prize to 8 Birley Hall, with a highly commended awarded to 7 The Aspens in Northbrook Road.
The judges said they were particularly impressed by the winners who had handcrafted their decorations.
Winner best street
The award for the best street went to Brickyard Close at Purbeck View School, with a highly commended awarded to Linden Road.
The residents in Linden Road scooped a highly commended in the best road category with huge light displays at one end to more low key twinkly lit porches at the other end of the road

“There are so many houses and flats who have gone the extra mile to give us all something to smile about. Why not take a walk round town with your families and friends and see the magnificent shop window displays as well as some of our winners of the best home category.
