Dorset Police are appealing for witnesses to a “ very distressing experience” in which a woman was assaulted and had her handbag stolen, as she walked along a road in Swanage in Dorset.
The robbery was reported to have happened between 10.20 am and 10.30 am on Thursday 1st August 2024 in Queen’s Road, near to the junction of Queen’s Mead and the post box.

Girl with long, mousey hair
The woman, aged in her 60s, was pushed to the pavement and her handbag, which contained a phone, cash and make-up, was stolen.
The teenager is described as a girl with long, mousey hair and wearing a black hooded top and black jeans. It is reported that she then made off from the scene with a group of young people.
The woman received minor injuries to her face and legs but did not require hospital treatment.
Fortunately, her phone was found discarded at the junction between Bell Street and Marsh Way in West Swanage by a member of the public and it has now been returned.

“Very distressing experience”
Police constable Peter Daly, of Wareham police, said:
“This was a very distressing experience for the victim and we are carrying out a number of enquiries to identify the person responsible for this robbery.
“I would like to hear from anyone who witnessed suspicious behaviour in the areas of Queen’s Road and Bell Street.
“I would also ask any residents or motorists driving in these areas at the time of the assault to please review their home CCTV and dashcam footage to see if they have captured anything of relevance.”
