Emergency services including the air ambulance and coastguard helicopter went to the aid of a woman in her 80s, after she fell from a height at Winspit Quarry near Worth Matravers in Dorset.
Sadly, according to Dorset Police, the woman from Poole was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident happened at around 2 pm on Saturday 22nd June 2024.

Multi-agency incident
Along with the ambulance, police, and coastguard teams, Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue were also called to help.
A spokesperson from DW Fire and Rescue said:
“We received a call from our ambulance colleagues at 2.11 pm on Saturday afternoon, 22nd June, about an incident on Winspit Road, Worth Matravers.
“Crews from Swanage and Redhill Park along with technical rescue teams from Poole attended to assist with the multi-agency incident which involved a fall from height.”

“Not being treated as suspicious”
The disused limestone quarry at Winspit, on the South West Coast Path, is a popular place to visit with beautiful views of the sea and the rugged coastline.
A spokesperson for Dorset Police said:
“Officers attended and very sadly the woman, aged in her 80s and from Poole, was pronounced dead at the scene.
“The death is not being treated as suspicious. The woman’s family has been notified and the coroner has been informed.
“Our thoughts are with the woman’s family and loved ones at this very difficult time.”
