Yacht gets washed up on Swanage Beach

The surprising sight of a boat on Swanage Beach rather than in the sea, caught the attention of visitors and locals.

With fresh easterly winds and a choppy sea, it’s believed that the yacht named Fidelis, meaning ‘faithful’, broke free of its mooring and was blown onto the shore on Thursday 17th September 2020.

Impossible to re-float

Swanage Coastguard was called to help but with the water too shallow, it proved impossible to re-float the vessel.

By lunchtime, as the tide went further out, the yacht was well and truly stuck in the sand.

Wait for the tide to come in

It’s understood that the plan is to wait for the tide to come in later today and hopefully it can be relaunched back into the sea. High tide is at 9.43 pm this evening.
