Boat stuck on Studland nudist beach

Both Swanage Coastguard and Poole RNLI were called out to a 45 foot sailing yacht that ran aground on a Studland beach and has been stuck there for several days.

Early morning dog walkers and joggers were surprised to see the boat washed up on the stretch of Knoll Beach famous for naturism on Monday 27th September 2021.

“The person was okay but needed help”

Poole Lifeboat Station reported:

“The vessel with one person on-board had gone aground in Studland Bay. With the south westerly winds gusting 30 knots and a flooding tide, the lifeboat crew went to assist.

“The lifeboat arrived on scene – the person was okay but he needed help to secure his vessel to prevent it from being blown further up the beach.

“Two volunteer crew members entered the water and relayed the anchor to secure it. Once secured the skipper’s intention was to wait it out for high water and the UK coastguard would continue to monitor.”

Unable to contact the skipper

By the evening of Tuesday 28th September 2021 the yacht was still stuck.

The UK Coastguard was unable to contact the skipper, so asked Swanage Coastguard and Poole RNLI to check on the situation.

Swanage Coastguard reported:

“The yacht went aground earlier this week and despite efforts has remained stuck. Solent Coastguard were unable to check the welfare of the skipper on board, so tasked both the team and the lifeboat.

“On arrival the team were able to confirm the safety of the male and the units were released.”
