Fundraising hits target to refurbish play area in Langton Matravers

Langton Matravers’ Parish Council has successfully raised £36,000 to re-equip the children’s playground in the village, boosted by a welcome donation of £5,000 from the housing association Aster Group.

The play area on St George’s School Field in Langton Matravers near Swanage, will include a castle mound, a climbing play trail, swings and a carousel.

Working with Redlynch, a provider of outdoor play equipment, Langton Matravers’ Parish Council says the new design is aimed at encouraging both imaginative and physical play.

While the current playground is still enjoyed by children, it was starting to require constant attention

“Generous donations”

Councillor Ian Vaughan-Arbuckle from Langton Matravers Parish Council said:

“The existing playground was getting old, required constant attention and was attracting adverse comment, so the parish council took the decision to replace the old equipment.

“We were able to fund most of the work but had a shortfall of £16,000, which I’m pleased to say has now been met by generous donations from the local community and a successful fundraising event, as well as £5,000 each from Aster and the Lottery Fund.

“We’re very grateful for the generous support of the Aster Group towards the refurbishment of the village play area and we look forward to establishing a close working relationship with them as the housing development progresses.”

“With our 28 new affordable homes currently in development in the village, we’re pleased that our donation brings the new play park one step closer. We hope that the whole community will enjoy this wonderful new space for family fun, play and relaxation.”

“Open before Christmas!”

Ian Vaughan-Arbuckle added:

“While we’ve raised the substantial amount that was required, small contributions towards the finishing touches will be very welcome.

“It’s hoped the newly equipped playground will be finished and open before Christmas!”
