Seafront road closure for Swanage Rowing Club event

With 30 boats taking part in the Swanage Rowing Club SuperVets Championship, the south end of Shore Road in Swanage will be closed for the day to help the event run smoothly.

Spectators are welcome to watch the races, which take place on Saturday 16th October 2021 from around 10 am.

“Come down and check out what’s going on”

Dan Bennett, chair of Swanage Rowing Club, said:

“To make the day run smoothly we have been given permission to close part of Shore Road from 7am to 7pm. We apologise for any inconvenience. It will be a great day. Come down and check out what’s going on.”

This event follows the Jurassic regatta, which went ahead in September 2021, and was the first rowing club competition in Swanage since Covid restrictions eased.

Grab a tea, piece of cake, watch the racing and enjoy the atmosphere”

Dan added:

“The event will be a fantastic spectacle with 30 pilot gig boats all competing to be the over 50 champions. The course will be set inside Swanage Bay with the start at the Clock Tower and finish at The Mowlem.

“The racing can be viewed all along the beach. There will be a spectator boat running from the Stone Quay next to the Monkey Beach where you can watch the heats and the finals – just turn up.

“There will also be refreshments, hot and cold drinks and a raffle put on by the rowing club to help raise funds which can be found at the marquee along Shore Road. Come along, grab a tea, piece of cake, watch the racing, and enjoy the atmosphere.”
