Swanage and Wareham firefighters do animal rescue!

Ideally equipped for reaching the top of buildings and trees, animal loving fire crews were called to separate incidents to save a bird in Swanage and a cat in Wareham.

Swanage Firefighters got out their large extendable ladder to reach a pigeon that had got entangled in netting at the top of a building in Institute Road in Swanage.

The crew was called out at 3.29 pm on Thursday 13th January 2022.

“No injuries to the bird”

Swanage Fire Station reported:

“Crews were mobilised to a pigeon caught in netting in the town centre.

“Our very own Firefighter Doolittle climbed up the ladder, cut the netting and rescued the pigeon using a cat basket.

“I’m pleased to say there were no injuries to the bird and it was released without harm.”

A cat called Reggie

Meanwhile three days earlier Wareham Fire crew were mobilised at 1.10 pm on Monday 10th January 2022 to extricate a cat called Reggie.

Wareham Fire Station reported:

“One fire engine was sent to Sandford Lane, to rescue Reggie the cat who was stuck 15 meters up in a tree.

“The rescue was perrrrrrrfect and Reggie was soon in the arms of his owner. RSPCA was on hand too, checking out Reggie’s nine lives.”
