Purbeck Police stop driver with smashed in car

A driver in Wool near Wareham was told by police to stop driving a vehicle with no front bumper, lights or number plate but to ring for a recovery truck instead.

On a regular patrol through Wool on Thursday 3rd February 2022, the police spotted the damaged car and turned round to follow it.

According to the officers, the vehicle was not roadworthy and there was a possibility it may have been involved in a road traffic accident and had failed to stop.

“My boss told me to drive it back

Purbeck Police reported:

“We were a few vehicles behind it when the vehicle stopped and pulled in. When we were behind it, I got out and asked the driver what had happened and why was he driving it?

“His reply was, ‘I had an accident just now and exchanged details and my boss told me to drive it back’. When asked if his boss had seen the damage he said ‘yes he has’.

“I explained to him he was not going to drive it back and needed to get it recovered. When I asked where he was driving it back to, he said ‘Sherborne’. He is now waiting for recovery.”
