Mature trees on the Downs to get the chop

Work to cut down eight mature trees that border the Downs and Seymer Road is to start on Monday 9th March 2020, following a survey that found they are threatening to cause the dry stone wall to collapse into the road. Cracks in the wall can be clearly seen by passer-bys.

Marked with a pink spot

Dorset Council’s arboricultural team is undertaking this work following the completion of a recent town-wide tree report. The identified trees have already been marked with a pink spot prior to the tree surgeons starting next week.

In a statement, Dorset Council said:

“Removal of the trees will enable the wall to be rebuilt and stabilised and the council is pleased to report that new trees will be replanted later this year, further back from the wall.”
