Swanage community spirit steps up to fight coronavirus impact

The community in Swanage is once again rallying to help everyone in need, this time in the face of coronavirus. Famous for its community spirit, the town is currently drawing up plans to tackle the challenges that it’s going to face.

With many public services closing down or compromised, the Government has called on neighbours to help those who are vulnerable or isolating in their homes and Swanage residents are responding.

Extraordinary council meeting

The town council is currently putting plans in place to ensure business continuity and to support the community, based on advice and guidance from Dorset Council. An extraordinary council meeting has been scheduled for 7 pm on Friday 20th March 2020 at the Town Hall. The agenda includes an item on the arrangements for managing council business during the Covid-19 pandemic.

A Facebook group, called Swanage Community Coronavirus Response has been set up to coordinate helping those who need assistance. It was created over the weekend to share information and support each other in the local community.

Already hundreds of residents are offering to help look after others. More details are expected to be released, as plans get confirmed.
