2020 season announcement by Swanage Rep Theatre Company

The Swanage Rep Theatre Company, that has performed at the Mowlem every August for the last three years, says that with regret, this season’s two plays and a musical, are to be postponed.

The company, who was delighted to receive Arts Council England funding earlier this year, says that due to the coronavirus restrictions, there just isn’t going to be enough time to give the performances the full credit they deserve, so the season will be pushed back to August 2021.

Three plays over three weeks

Last year the company performed three plays over three weeks at the Mowlem to impressive reviews – The 39 Steps, Keeping Up Appearances and Wait Until Dark.

Back in 2018, the company staged the children’s classic, The Railway Children, a very apt choice for Swanage, allowing the cast to shoot some publicity shots at Swanage Railway.

Incredibly difficult decision

In a video, posted on social media, one of the theatre company’s producers, Katherine Mount, expressed her disappointment at not being able to come to Swanage this year:

“We have taken the incredibly difficult decision to push the season back to August 2021. We were hoping that by August this year we would be able to get back on our feet and of course there is the potential that theatres may be able to open their doors by then, but it’s unlikely we will have the run up or the ability to create the season we were truly hoping for this year.”

Katherine went on to pay tribute to Swanage:

“I personally know what a wonderful community, a tight knit, caring community it is in Swanage and I’m sure that everybody will be looking after each other at this time and we can’t wait to see you again.”
