Don’t forget – Garden bin collections start this week!

With garden waste kerbside collections restarting in Swanage this week, local residents are being reminded to check the calendar and put their bin out for collection.

Dorset Council initially suspended the service last month to ensure that it had enough staff to maintain the regular food waste, rubbish, recycling and glass collections, following coronavirus public health guidance.

Increase in the number of bonfires

Now garden waste collection crews are in a position to restart the subscription service , which comes as a relief to many residents who have complained about the increase in the number of bonfires.

This has been a problem exacerbated by the closure of the recycling centre in Prospect Way, due to central government coronavirus restrictions. Dorset Council has yet to give any guidance on when the tip will be able to open.

Not taking new subscriptions

The recycling team is expected to be in north Swanage on Wednesday 29th March 2020, and then returning to the town to empty the rest of the garden waste bins next week on Tuesday 5th and Wednesday 6th May 2020. This is only for those who are already signed up, as Dorset Council is still not taking new subscriptions to the service.

To check your exact collection day, residents are asked to check their garden waste calendar or the Dorset Council website
