More Swanage residents can now get tested for coronavirus at the drive-through test facility at the former Creekmoor park and ride in Poole, following a government decision to extend the service.
Today, the UK Government’s Department of Health and Social Care said via social media that there was high availability at the Bournemouth site, meaning the facility in Poole, and encouraged eligible local people with coronavirus symptoms to book a test.
Offer it to others
At first, the site that opened this week, was aimed at testing all essential workers including NHS and social care workers with symptoms, but now there’s enough availability to offer it to others.
So now it’s also available to:
- Anyone over 65 with symptoms
- Anyone with symptoms whose work cannot be done from home (for example, construction workers, shop workers, emergency plumbers and delivery drivers)
- Anyone who has symptoms of coronavirus and lives with any of those identified above
The easiest way to book a test is to go online via the online portal.
The government says that there are now more than 40 drive-through testing sites across the country, as well as a network of mobile testing units travelling to reach care homes, police stations, prisons and other sites where there is demand for testing. It says that the network is expected to reach over 70 units by this weekend.
