Despite warnings against bonfires, fire crew deals with farmyard blaze

Last night at 11.32 pm, Swanage Fire Station was called to extinguish a large bonfire that had spread to rubbish on a farm near Corfe Castle.

Also attending the fire was one pump and the Unimog from Wareham Fire Station. The fire was put out using multiple tanks of water, one hose reel jet and one main line.

Not to light bonfires at this time

Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue has asked on multiple occasions for people not to light bonfires at this time, while conditions are dry.

All the emergency services have said that they wish to reduce the number of call outs if possible, while there is still a risk of spreading coronavirus because the operational nature of their job does not always allow them to social distance.

Wareham Fire Station has reminded people that if they are going to have a sizeable bonfire or another type of controlled burning that will be visible to passers-by, they should let their Fire Control know in advance by completing Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Services’ online form.
