Durdle Door by appointment only

Following the recent overcrowding, antisocial and reckless behaviour at Durdle Door, a car park pre-booking system is being introduced by the Lulworth Estate from today.

The intention is to limit the number of the visitors by only letting people who have already booked a car parking space in advance, to use the car park. The cost for the Durdle Door car park for up to four hours is £10 and to park all day is £15.

A space can be booked via the JustPark phone app.

“Do not arrive without your pre-booking confirmation”

The Lulworth Estate said:

“There are a limited amount of spaces at this car park. If you are not able to book for the time you have searched, this means the car park is fully booked. Please ensure you book for the exact amount of time you require. You will only be able to park within the hours of your booking. Do not arrive without your pre-booking confirmation.”

The estate also says that there is no parking for coaches and overnight camping is not allowed in the car park or on the beaches. Also there is no discount for blue badge holders.

The measure has been brought in following a meeting with Lulworth Estate, Dorset Council, Dorset Police, the South West Ambulance Trust and the MP for Dorset South, Richard Drax.

Only a manageable number of day trippers

The plan is to deter visitors driving to the area, unless they know that they have a car parking space booked in advance. It’s hoped this will in turn result in only a manageable number of day trippers visiting Durdle Door at any one time, over what is expected to be a busy summer.

Corfe Castle

This is a similar approach to the one taken by the National Trust to limit numbers. The National Trust managed, Corfe Castle is also only able to be visited by people who have already pre-booked tickets in advance.
