Purbeck Sports Centre set to reopen after lockdown

Following the further easing of lockdown, Purbeck Sports Centre in Wareham is to reopen from Saturday 25th July 2020, having been closed for four months due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The centre operated by Dorset Council, has got the go ahead to start welcoming people again to its facilities after the government said that indoor swimming pools and gyms could start to reopen.

A rigorous cleaning regime

Dorset Council says that it is putting in place social distancing measures at the Purbeck Sports Centre, together with a rigorous cleaning regime. Touch-points, such as door handles and railings, and all equipment will be cleaned regularly and hand sanitising stations will be positioned around the building.

It also says that centre employees are in the process of receiving COVID-19 training to help them understand and implement plans for the safety of customers.

“Looking forward to opening our doors again”

Councillor Tony Alford, Dorset Council’s portfolio holder for customer, community and regulatory services, said:

“Our sports and leisure centres play an important role in the health of Dorset’s communities, so we are looking forward to opening our doors again.

“We’d like to reassure everyone that we have implemented strict measures to ensure the cleanliness and safety of our centres. This information can be found on our web pages and we would ask people to familiarise themselves with the details prior to attending their centre.

“We thank all our customers for their continued support and patience and look forward to seeing them again soon.”

The council says that it will be updating the Purbeck Sports Centre’s web page with further details about activities, opening times and booking and payment arrangements, in time for the reopening on the 25th July 2020.
