Thousands of jobs available for 2021 Census says Dorset Council

People in Swanage and across Dorset are being encouraged to apply for temporary jobs to help collect data for the 2021 Census.

The census is a once-in-a-decade survey that gives the most accurate estimate of all the people and households in England and Wales. Every household is required to fill out the form, giving details about everyone living there, including their age and occupation. It takes place every 10 years.

Helps councils make important decisions

This data helps councils make important decisions like deciding how services are planned and funded in our community, including doctors’ surgeries, housing and new bus routes.

The first census was in 1801 and the information gathered over the decades is of huge interest to family historians who use it to research relatives. It also reveals fascinating details of how the way we live has changed over the centuries.

£18.87 to £24.56 per hour

The next census will be on Sunday 21st March 2021 and as a result, thousands of people are being hired to gather the information from every community including Swanage. The temporary work is paid at a rate of between £18.87 to £24.56 per hour.

Dorset Council said:

“Over the coming months there will be thousands of jobs made available for the 2021 Census. If you’re looking for temporary work and want to help create a picture of 2021, take a look at the roles available.”
