The Isle of Purbeck Arts Club members are revealing what they got up to during lockdown in an exhibition of their art, which includes some iconic Purbeck and Swanage scenes.
The popular annual exhibition is usually held in the Catholic Church Hall during the last week of August but this year to enable everyone to see the art, despite the coronavirus pandemic that has disrupted every facet of everyday life, it’s available to view online.

An original piece of art from a local artist
Rather than cancel, the artwork is available to view on a website and as usual, some is available to buy. Many regular visitors to Swanage at the end of August enjoy browsing the collection and taking away an original piece of art from a local artist.
This year it can reach a wider audience who may not be able to make their usual visit to the area or others who are still preferring to stay at home.

“New and exciting way of communicating our work”
The Isle of Purbeck Arts Club, chair Gina Marshall said:
“Although we’re a bit disappointed that our annual exhibition isn’t quite the usual big event, moving it online has given us a new and exciting way of communicating our work and what we do to the public.
“During lockdown, it’s been difficult without our usual meetings, which provide mutual support and inspiration. However we’ve been sharing our work from isolation online and have found that new and different ideas have developed. More time spent at home has given some of us the extra opportunity to be more creative.”

A variety of artistic activities
The Isle of Purbeck Arts Club organises and supports a variety of artistic activities for everyone to enjoy and for all abilities.
From painting to poetry, there’s also art workshops, outings and bursaries to support the wider arts community in Purbeck.
Once lockdown eased, the Tuesday morning painting group has been able to meet outdoors in small numbers, in a variety of inspirational locations around Purbeck, including the idyllic setting by the river in Wareham.
