Traffic lights allow rebuilding of wall in Swanage to get the go ahead

Work to repair the dry stone wall that is collapsing into Seymer Road next to the Downs is to start in November 2020 and temporary traffic lights will be installed to allow the work to take place safely.

Eight mature trees, whose growth were damaging the wall, were chopped down last March 2020 following a tree survey by Dorset Council.

Now the restoration of the traditional Purbeck dry stone wall is scheduled to start on Monday 2nd November 2020 and to last for 14 weeks. This means that the repairs could last until mid February 2021.

Part of the road will be closed

To allow the construction team to work safely, part of the road will be closed and temporary traffic lights will be installed.

Speaking back in March 2020, Dorset council said that once the wall had been repaired, new trees will be replanted further back from the wall to replace the ones that were removed.
