Swanage woke up to a sea of fog as the Met Office issued a weather warning and heavy mist made travel difficult.
The yellow weather warning for fog by the Met Office covers much of southern England – including Dorset, Purbeck and Swanage.
This warning is set to be in place until 11 am on Tuesday 8th December 2020.
The weather conditions were challenging for the Swanage Coastwatch team as visibility was greatly reduced
Expect travel disruption
The Met Office said:
“Fog is expected to thicken up across parts of England on Monday evening and last into Tuesday morning, bringing some travel disruption.”
Motorists are advised to expect slower journey times – and possible delays to train and bus services.

The Met Office advises against travel in foggy conditions if possible.
For anyone who has to travel, they are issuing the following advice:
- Drivers should move very slowly with dipped headlights on, as full-beam lights could reflect off the fog
- Watch your speed
- Use fog lights, but be sure to turn them off when conditions become clearer
- Do not hang on the tail lights of any car ahead of you
- Be careful of freezing fog – and any layers of ice that form as a result
