Sweet gesture by The Mowlem

Swanage’s theatre, The Mowlem has decided to share some of its tasty treats, after it was forced to close once again due to the coronavirus lockdown.

The venue has been unable to sell sweets from its kiosk thanks to the closure. As a result, it is donating this stock to local emergency service workers as they carry on tirelessly through the new winter lockdown.

Some of the stock that has a longer shelf life will also go to the local food bank.

On social media, The Mowlem said:

“We are very happy to give our sweets and treats to our local heroes.”

This is not the first time The Mowlem has been forced to shut. It was also closed during the first national lockdown that came into force in both March and November 2020 amid the spread of COVID-19.

Helping people “in their time of need”

South West Ambulance Service worker Liam Blake said on Facebook:

“Today, I was asked to go and meet Thomas Curtis who is the manager of The Mowlem in Swanage, unfortunately they have had to close for the majority of the past 12 months meaning they had a lot of excess stock in the sweet Kiosk, some of which went out of date at the end of December, they have kindly donated this to the crews at Swanage Fire Station, Swanage Ambulance station, Wareham ambulance station and Wareham Fire Station as a thank you for the past year.

“I will also be leaving bits on ambulances at whichever hospital I find myself at during the course of my night shift tonight. On behalf of everyone that this huge hit reaches, thank you and hope to see you open again soon.”

Wareham Fire Station added:

“Thank you to Thomas Curtis, manager at The Mowlem, Swanage, who kindly donated sweets and drinks to Wareham Fire Station and other local emergency services.”
