Freezing temperatures and icy winds have produced an amazing display of icicles at locations in and around Swanage.
Heading out of Swanage towards Corfe Castle these images were taken by Kelly Louise Tott just outside of Harmans Cross. Safely snapped in order not to cause a road hazard, Kelly described the icicles hanging from the hedgerow as beautiful and truly spectacular.
The ethereal effect has been produced by vehicles spraying water from a puddle onto the bushes and then the water freezing as it drips down.
Studland icicle display
Similarly, on the road from Swanage to Studland another icicle display has been forming over the last few days. The reflection of the icicles in the water on the road only serves to enhance the breathtaking view.
The brook just off Washpond Lane
These icicles were captured by Amelia Coffen in the brook just off Washpond Lane in Swanage. As Amelia herself noted, some of them look more like bananas!
Frozen waterfall at Durlston Country Park
At Durlston Country Park an equally interesting wall of icicles can be seen clinging from the rock face above the Caravan Terrace. As the rainwater has seeped through the crevices in the rock, it has created a frozen waterfall.
Swanage resident, Pamela Smith who took these photos said:
“Extraordinary walk at Durlston this morning: I was nearly blown off my feet by the strong winds. Especially loved the icicles on Caravan Terrace – they are just beginning to melt very slowly.”
