Swanage 40 to 49 year olds offered Covid jabs

Swanage Medical Practice says it’s now sending out invites to its patients aged 40 to 49 years to get a Covid jab.

Letters are going out this week for appointments at Wareham Hospital for clinics on Saturday 27th, Tuesday 30th and Wednesday 31st March 2021.

“Letters will arrive on doorsteps this week”

A spokesperson for Swanage Medical Practice said:

“Pleasingly we’ve been given the go-ahead to invite our 40 to 49 year olds. Letters will arrive on doorsteps this week for appointments at the Wareham Hub.

“Any of you that have taken the opportunity of having it done at the BIC please let us know so we can cancel the Wareham appointments. Unfortunately if you have a BIC or pharmacy vaccination appointment elsewhere, they don’t show up on our system.

“Thanks again for your support. The high uptake amongst our patients is very gratifying.”

Everyone in Swanage who is 50 or over, or who is eligible to get the vaccine as part of the first cohort to receive the jab, should have already been offered an appointment.

This includes:

  • People aged 50 and over
  • People at high risk from coronavirus (clinically extremely vulnerable)
  • People who live or work in care homes
  • Health and social care workers
  • People with a condition that puts them at higher risk (clinically vulnerable)
  • People with a learning disability
  • People who are a main carer for someone at high risk from coronavirus

Dorset Clinical Commissioning Group, that is rolling out the vaccine programme across the county, is now urging this group not to delay in getting their jab.

“The time to do so is right now”

A spokesperson said:

“Appointments for first doses are still available for the rest of March, but they are filling up fast. So if you are in an eligible group – meaning you are 50 or over, have a health condition that puts you at greater risk, or are a health or social care worker – and you haven’t booked your first dose yet, the time to do so is right now.”

Dr Karen Kirkham, local Dorset GP, and clinical lead for the Dorset Covid-19 vaccination programme, added:

“The Covid-19 vaccine gives you the best protection against coronavirus.

“We’d like to urge people who are eligible to accept the offer of a vaccine as soon as they can to protect themselves and those around them. So if you are in any of the eligible groups, please don’t delay.

“If you know anyone, any friends, loved ones or others in your local community who are, please share this message, and urge them to accept the vaccine offer.”
