“In danger of serious injury”

Purbeck Police said:

“For those of you who are unaware, this building will be due for demolition in the near future. The site is very dangerous.

“However, the local youths from year 8’s to year 12’s, have been accessing the building by smashing windows, ripping off panels and putting themselves at risk and in danger of serious injury.”

Left to decay

The Swanage Grammar School was closed down in 1974 and has been left to decay since about 2002. The school was constructed in the 1920s and it’s reported that there’s asbestos in the derelict buildings.

A number of planning proposals have been floated over the years for the site including restoring the old school building but none have come to fruition.

There is currently an approved planning application for the demolition of the buildings and the construction of 39 homes by developers, Welfare Dwellings Residential Care Ltd.
