Within minutes of a 999 call, Swanage fire crew arrived at the scene of a fire at a cottage in Swanage, closely followed by a crew from Wareham.
The incident happened just off the High Street near Benlease Way in West Swanage just after 10 am on Wednesday 27th March 2024.

Smoke-filled cottage
While the fire had mostly been extinguished by the time the crew arrived, there was still a lot of smoke in the cottage.
The firefighters had to wear breathing apparatus (BA) to enter the home and use a positive-pressure ventilation (PPV) fan to disperse the smoke.
A fire crew from Wareham was also called to the scene
A specialist bit of firefighting kit, a PPV fan, was used to disperse the smoke from the home
“Residents were not injured”
Swanage Fire Station reported:
“This morning one appliance from Swanage backed up by an engine from Wareham, attended a fire at a property in town.
“The fire was mostly out on arrival but was still smoke logged.
“Crews wearing BA checked over the property internally and with the help of a PPV fan, ventilated it. Luckily minor damage was caused and the residents were not injured.”
