No more Sandbank Ferry paper tickets to be sold for vehicles

The Sandbanks Ferry company has announced the end of the sale of paper ticket books for cars, vans, lorries, buses and coaches.

They will only be available from the toll booths and the ferry office in Studland in Dorset until Thursday 31st March 2022, while stocks last.

The company says it won’t be printing any more paper tickets for vehicles making the crossing between Studland and Sandbanks, but a discount is still available for bulk purchases on its toll card.

The Sandbanks Ferry Toll Card (SFTC), introduced in 2020, offers a discount of up to 39 percent on the price of crossings for a car. There are also discounts for goods vehicles and coaches.

“No more will be printed”

Jason du Toit, managing director of the Sandbanks Ferry Company, said:

“Our Sandbanks Ferry Toll Card system is fully operational and available to all. The paper tickets will no longer be available for purchase for vehicles, however the SFTC system continues the discounts offered for bulk purchases

“SFTCs registered with a BH postcode can still have an additional ‘dependant’ card on their account, for sharing passes. All paper tickets that have been purchased will remain valid.

“Once we have sold our remaining stock of tickets, no more will be printed. We will continue to offer paper books of tickets for pedestrians, bicycles and motorcycles.”

Paper tickets will not expire

The news that paper tickets already sold will remain valid and not expire, will be welcome by many residents and regular visitors to Swanage, who bought the paper tickets in bulk in November 2019.

This was when the company offered a double discount on the purchase of the books, following the resumption of ferry service. The ferry, Bramble Bush Bay, was out of action for months over the summer in 2019, while its drive shaft was replaced.

Since then, many have had no need to use the ferry because of the Covid pandemic and the government restrictions on travel and the working from home rule.

Toll cards are available free of charge from the ferry office and the toll booths on Ferry Road in Studland.
